For any expectant parent, the possibility of seeing your baby before he or she is born is an exciting one. Whilst you will undergo routine ultrasound scans as part of your pregnancy, generally around 12 weeks and 20 weeks, these will not necessarily show you the detail you want and you may not get a picture to take home.  By booking an appointment at a private ultrasound clinic for a 3D or 4D ultrasound scan you can immerse yourself in more detailed images of your baby.

Many parents choose to do this, not only to see their baby moving around, but also to check on their health.

What to expect from 4D ultrasound scans

A 4D ultrasound scan brings the extra fourth dimension of movement, enabling you to see animated images of your baby in the womb. You will be amazed at how much more realistic a 4D scan is compared to a 3D scan, and depending on the package you choose, you can also take this imagery away with you along with 3D still images.

Due to the animation of a 4D ultrasound scan, you need to wait until you are about 24 weeks pregnant to see your baby in the best detail.  Between the 24th and 34th week of pregnancy is the ideal time to book in for this level of scan, as your baby will be at a sufficient point in their development for you to see them moving around, as well as checking their weight, growth and gender if required.

We do of course offer early reassurance scans prior to the 24th week, but they are not available in 4D.

At your scan, you will be able to see your baby moving around, opening and closing their eyes and perhaps even sucking a thumb!
